As the new year is underway, I’ve been reflecting on how far we’ve come, and it struck me—this marks 15 years since I started this project.
Fifteen years ago, in my small apartment near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I launched my first business idea as a design student in my 20s. I wanted to create something entirely new—something the world had never seen. It needed a word that hadn't been used before, so I called it Threyda.
From the beginning, I knew Threyda would be an unusual blend of art and clothing, driven by meaning and thoughtfulness. What I didn’t know was how this small project would evolve. Back then, I couldn’t have imagined where it might lead; I just pointed in a direction and kept moving forward. Perhaps it was beginner's luck—or maybe it was the spark of something meant to last.
I dug up a picture of my first apartment to share with you. Everything started in this little corner of my studio. I hastily spray painted the name on my wall to make it seem extra serious. You can see my first printer on the right there and some prints waiting to get packaged.
As I reflect on these 15 years, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who has taken part. To those who supported our ideas, contributed their art, placed orders, shared our work, or even mentioned us to a friend—you have shaped this story. Threyda wouldn’t be the same without you.
This year is already shaping up to be one of our most exciting yet. We’re committed to making huge improvements in every area of Threyda. Expect faster shipping times, even more sophisticated clothing designs, an expanded collection of women’s clothing, and a whole new direction for our art prints. These changes are driven by your feedback and our passion for making Threyda even better for you.
Each piece of art, every order, every kind word, and every moment of connection has added to the vibrant picture we’re painting together. Though Threyda is still a small team of seven, the ideas have grown bigger, our reach has expanded, and it feels like this is just the beginning.
One day, when we look back at the destination this journey leads us to, we’ll see the beauty of what we’ve created—an extraordinary group collaboration inspired by creativity, collaboration, passion, and heart.
